The rich summer season program of the Opera in Rome, which will take place once again at Terme di Caracalla (in English "Baths of Caracalla") from June 22nd until August 10th, will include 25 nights of a great quality: a new preparation of Verdi’s Nabucco, the revival of Madama Butterfly and The Barber of Seville, a night entirely dedicated to Nureyev, with 3 ballets choreographed by the famous Russian artist and, in advance, 5 “Extras” with Roberto Bolle, Lang Lang, Lionel Richie and Neil Young.
A challenging program, carried out in order to repeat, and even overtake, the great results of the last season, when Caracalla 2015 counted more than 72000 spectators.

The operas proposed for this season place side by side the most famous authors of the 19th century Italian melodrama, with 3 titles that will attract many enthusiasts, both Italian and visiting. The new preparation of Verdi’s Nabucco will be curated by Federico Grazzini, a young director with an interesting artistic background although at his first collaboration with Teatro dell’Opera di Roma. This choice, besides being a bet on an emerging artist, is also a proof of the interest that the Teatro has in young talents. The direction of the Orchestra del Teatro dell’Opera di Roma will be assigned to John Fiore and, limited to the last night, to Carlo Donadio. Nabbucco will be on the scene from July 9th until August 9th.

On July 18th, for five times until Wednesday August 10th and within the festival “Rossini a Roma 200 anni” (translated “Rossini in Rome 200 years ago”), comes back on the scene of Terme di Caracalla a show that has earned a lot of success back in 2014: The Barber of Seville, directed by Lorenzo Mariani and conducted by Yves Abel. In the cast there are, among others, Teresa Iervolino, Mikhail Korobeinikov and Eleonora de la Pena.

The third operatic title of this season is Puccini’s Madama Butterfly, that will be conducted, again, by Yves Abel while directed by Alex Ollé de la Fura dels Baus; in the cast, stands out the Lithuanian soprano Asmik Grigorian, playing the role of Cio Cio San.

Very interesting will be also the weekly lessons called “Lezioni di Opera” (translated “Opera Lessons”) by maestro Giovanni Bietti, who earned great success with the same events during Caracalla 2015.

If in Rome, unmissable will be the “Extras” at Terme di Caracalla 2016, which will be both ballets and concerts. Lionel Richie will perform on Thursday July 14th and Neil Young on Friday July 15th, with the latter who’ll play alongside Lukas Nelson’s band, the Promise of The Real. At the end of July, precisely on Monday 25th and Tuesday 26th, Roberto Bolle will perform on the scene, with a show that will have many international étoiles and will include many different dancing styles, passion and, as usual, elegance.

Completing the “Extras” program, on Sunday July 31st there will be the concert of 2Cellos, band composed of two violoncello stars that will perform in a show rich of lights, rock-style visual effects and their own arrangement of tracks from Bach, Morricone, Rolling Stones, U2 and many more.
